Hi and welcome to the Own Your
Health podcast,
I'm Cyndi Lynne,
and I can't
wait to help
you step into
your health
power. So if you
follow me for
any length of
time or have
ever been a
part of The
Heal Your Life
Community, you'll
know
that for me,
September is the
new year.
This is when
I like to
make big
changes,
evaluate how I'm
doing things in
life, start
things fresh.
And it just
makes a lot
more sense for
me to do this in
September
than in January.
One,
because for
those of us in
the northern
hemisphere,
this is a
big change in
weather.
Fall going from
summer into
winter,
a much bigger
change than we
experience in
January.
So there's maybe
a change of
wardrobes, a
change
of daily
patterns,
what you do
when you get
up, what you
do indoors, what
you do outdoors,
just a big
time of change.
And I like
to capitalize on
that. I like to
take advantage
of that change.
And rather than
having it
something
that just
happens
to me, I
like to drive
the change in
my life.
And one of
the ways to
do this is
by going back
to school.
And when I
say that, I
mean back to
school in the
broadest sense.
It doesn't have
to be a
master's or a
doctorate or a
whole nother new
degree.
I'm talking
about
simply learning
something.
So what does
this have to
do with our
health?
Well, we need
our brains to
be active.
We need to
not only take
in new
information,
because that's
something
we do passively
for minutes, if
not hours, every
day, take in
information.
But the process
of learning
means
we process and
we use that
information.
We have that
information make,
yes,
useful meaning
for us.
So when we
learn something
new,
it's absorbing
it,
it's processing
it,
it's understanding
it,
it's demonstrating
it,
it's performing
it.
It's the mental
aspect, it's the
physical aspect.
And that's what
I'm going to
encourage you to
do on this
podcast, and
this
September is to
learn something
new. So a couple
of caveats here.
One, don't do
something that
you
feel like you
should do.
When I talk
to clients about
this and I
say, all right,
you know what?
You've done a
lot of different
things for your
health.
Your next
assignment
is to learn
something new.
And they're
like,
oh, well, I
should really
learn more about
investing,
or I should
learn more about
retirement, or I
should learn
more
about, mmm, my
health.
And if it's
a should, that's
not what I'm
talking about
here.
There's a place
for should
somewhere
on your list.
But when I'm
talking about
learning
something brand
new, I'm talking
about
going out and
trying something
that
you not only
have to learn
about, but you
also have to
perform.
So that's the
second caveat.
It has to
be some type
of physical
performance.
So is it dance?
Is it learning
to play an
instrument?
Is it learning
to paint?
Is it learning
to make
something?
Learning to cook
with your hands
or with new
tools or new
cuisine?
Learning to cook
with new spices?
There's so many
things out
there.
Learning a
language.
So there's a
big physical
aspect
to language, and
that is that
you actually
have
to make your
mouth and your
tongue do
different
things.
When we learn
to speak in
different ways,
and that's very
fascinating
because it is
a very physical
thing, especially
for adults.
For children,
it's
a little bit
more seamless.
And their
tongues
and their mouths
are able to,
at a very
young age,
conform to all
different
kinds of sounds
that they hear.
As we get
older, and our
speech patterns
have
been embedded in
us for many,
many years,
making
our mouths and
our tongues do
something different
is definitely a
learned
skill and
definitely
physical.
So I invite
you to take
a little bit
of time, think
about all of
the things that
you encounter,
and
pick one thing
that you want
to learn.
And when I
say learning a
musical instrument,
that
doesn't mean
that
you're going to
commit to
becoming
proficient so
that
you're going to
be in the
next symphony.
It simply means
a new outlet
where you have
to take a
new information,
process
it, and then
perform physically
using that
information.
And my hope
for you is
that this will
do a couple
of things.
One, it forces
you to expand
your world, make
it a little
bit bigger.
Two, it forces
you to choose
something.
And we're not
always very good
at that,
especially
when it's
something
for ourselves to
choose one thing
for us.
Three, I'm
hoping
it gives you
a little bit
of sense of
nervousness, a
little
bit of sense
of anxiety, but
the same amount
of excitement,
the
same amount of
interest, and
being
really engaged
in
something new,
I want you to
have that little
bit of self
doubt of, okay,
I'm going to
try this.
I hope I
can do it.
I wonder if
I can do it.
No, you know
what?
I'm gonna do it.
And I want
you to have
the experience
of
overcoming these
feelings
so that you
can feel not
only the success
of actually
performing
this new thing,
the new
painting,
the new dance,
the new
language,
the new recipes
that you haven't
tried before,
but you also
experience
the success of
overcoming that
little
bit of fear,
a little bit
of self doubt,
little bit of
anxiety.
You work through
it. The stakes
weren't
real high, so
it shouldn't be
too intense, but
there should be
enough that you
get that feeling
of success.
And that's
really
good for our
health.
The success is
good for our
health.
The overcoming
is good for our
health.
To try and
try again when
we're learning
something
new helps to
build
resilience.
Now, maybe it's
your health
itself that you
finally
want to take
control over,
that you finally
want to step up
and say, you
know what?
I want some
blood work.
I want to
know what these
results mean.
I know.
I want to
know what I
can actually do.
I want to
know what all
of these tests
that I've taken
over the years,
what they mean
for my health
and what I
can actually do
about it.
If that's what
you want to
learn, I'm
absolutely
here to help.
Otherwise, I
will be your
cheerleader
for every other
endeavor.
So I'd love
to hear what
you're doing.
Reach out.
Send me an
email or a

it is that
you're choosing
to
learn when you

learning
about your
health
and what you

it, reach out
