Hello and welcome to the Own Your Health Podcast. I'm Cyndi Lynne and I can't wait to help you step into your health power today. As September comes upon us and fall starts to come to many parts of the world, the seasons start to change.
[00:19.3]
I usually celebrate my New Year's. I'm saving that for next week, because this is really a, start of changes for me this week. I wanted to share with you some of the transitions I make, some of the changes, changes I make for my health, for my life, for my enjoyment as fall starts to shift into view.
[00:40.8]
And these might be some that are inspiration for you as well. Summertime is typically very busy, very social, very active for us. A lot more interaction with people, time outside, longer days.
[00:57.5]
And as these days start to shorten, one of the things that I really enjoy doing is taking advantage of that longer dark period for more and better sleep. So the first thing I do is start going to bed earlier.
[01:14.3]
Now I've, I'm not a night owl by any stretch in summer, but I do find myself much more inclined to be very active if it's still light at 09:00'. Clock. As the days shorten, I make a point to go to bed a little bit earlier, which means starting my evening routine a little bit earlier.
[01:33.9]
Just kind of moving it, pulling it all in for more quiet, more peaceful evenings. I also enjoy slower mornings. I get up typically about the same time, but without the bright sunlight, with the still kind of dark start to the day.
[01:55.6]
It gives me time to read and to think and it gives me very much the feeling that I have this time before everyone else is up and on the scene. So that's kind of two sides to the same coin. Taking advantage of an earlier evening bedtime with the, with the shorter daylight and then a slower morning.
[02:16.6]
And I typically in summer start with water, electrolytes, different supplements. Now as the weather cools, it'll be the hot lemon water again and some, some sort of coffee drink.
[02:34.2]
Typically as I slide into my morning, the second thing I do is shift in foods. And some people automatically feel this pull. It gets a little bit cooler out. You start looking for soups and stews and meals that are a little bit heavier, a little bit warmer.
[02:51.1]
You may find you have less of an interest in salads and in, in light kind of cold foods. As the temperatures drop, the warmer foods. And if you realize this is happening, you can get ahead of the game, get your cooking going, get you pull out your favorite recipes from fall and really start planning to nourish yourself in this cooler weather.
[03:18.2]
I think a lot of us notice and bemoan the fact that summer is leaving and kind of realize we've sort of lost our appetite for things like the. The big salads that we have a lot in summer. But then don't necessarily do anything about that.
[03:34.7]
Just kind of are not real excited about, menus or menu planning. You can take this time to be proactive and go out and start looking. All right, what are my favorite soup and stew recipes? What, what can we roast? What sort of winter vegetables are we shifting into?
[03:52.2]
The squashes and those kinds of things. And really enjoy that by getting, by being aware of it, by being intentional about it and kind of getting just a jump on the planning of it, saying, oh, yeah, this happens every year. I get tired of the salads.
[04:07.7]
I get tired of the same, you know, grilling we've been doing. It's been great for a few months, but we need something different. Be proactive about it, and you'll enjoy the whole process a lot more. And then the final thing that I do as the days begin to shorten and this kind of coincides with my feeling of, this is the start of the new year for me, is more time alone.
[04:33.5]
More time alone in thought, without the headphones in, without, TV on, without distractions, without reading. Just kind of time on my own or time on my own with my journal to think about.
[04:48.9]
Okay, this is a change of season for us. It's not just a change of season outdoors. It can be a change of season in life, a change of routine. The habits that you've started and that you've, you know, implemented and reinforced through the summer with regard to exercise and interaction with people, those things may change naturally with the time of year, with the weather change, with patterns and changes of kids back in school and schedule changes.
[05:22.0]
And that's okay. It doesn't mean that you've lost all that effort you've put in or you are going to break your continuous streak of some sort of activity. When you're intentional about it, when you sit down, when you think about it, when you plan about it, you say, okay, I've been doing these great things for my body.
[05:40.6]
I've been taking great supplements. I've been having really good meals. I've been having a great time fasting. How does that look different as the schedules and season and weather changes?
[05:56.6]
And if you're intentional about it, then you don't necessarily get that feeling like I've quit or I haven't been able to keep up or that didn't work out for me. Knowing that your habits need to change and adjust with the seasons makes them intentional and makes you a, continued success in this journey for your health.
[06:22.6]
So I'd love to hear what you do differently to keep your health going or even give it a boost as you move through the seasons. Absolutely. Reach out and I will respond. So until next week, let's go out and own it.
