[00:28.6]
So we've talked about fall, we've talked about Happy New Year. We've talked about making decisions intentionally in different parts of your life to celebrate and move into this new season. For example, we talked about decluttering.
[00:46.0]
How does this tie to self image? Well, think about it. Am I the kind of person, and that's usually the phrase when I talk about self image. I try that idea on. I'm the type of person that likes some space in my environment.
[01:04.0]
I'm the type of person that likes to have room to grow, room for something new, whether it be, new clothes, something new in the kitchen, something new in my music library.
[01:21.3]
I want space for something new, be that physical space, digital space, and probably most importantly, mental and emotional space for something new. So when I say those statements, they ring very true to me.
[01:38.8]
And, go ahead, give it a try. Try on some statements. I'm the type of person who, when it comes to clutter, I'm a person who enjoys a full busy day desk. I'm the type of person who likes to have everything right at my fingertips, so I keep it out all the time.
[01:58.1]
I'm the type of person who has to have counters completely clean. Try on some of those statements and see how they feel for you and get an idea about what your self image is regarding clutter.
[02:14.3]
And is that the self image you want to hold or is it the one that you've kind of inherited, gotten by default, or haven't even really given much thought and you just find yourself in your clutter and that's how you think life is.
[02:31.2]
You can be intentional, you can make choices. You can make different choices than what you're doing now. The same is true. We talked about supplements evaluating are the current supplements you're on something that you want to continue? Are they working for you?
[02:47.4]
Did you do them as a trial? Go ahead and evaluate how they worked. Is it something you tried and want to continue, or is it time to let some of those go and try something else? Try on these sentences, try on these self image ideas.
[03:06.6]
I'm the type of person who's willing to try something and then See if it works or not. I'm the type of person who doesn't see a trial as a failure. I get to try on ideas, I get to try on supplements.
[03:22.1]
I get to try on food plans and evaluate if they work for me. And not only work for me, but work for me. In this season of my life. So many of us have things that we hang on to, baggage, stories, stories, self image that we hang on to that really was created in a different season of our life.
[03:46.6]
And it may not fit well now. So I encourage you to take the best of those ideas, the best of what fits with your current self image. Get rid of the rest, let it fall away and pick up what's new.
[04:01.9]
Pick up what works for you now, what reflects the life that you want to live. I'm the type of person who is intentional with my food choices. Now, notice how that's very different than thinking. I'm the type of person who eats perfectly all the time.
[04:19.5]
And I never eat anything that's not part of my food plan. That sounds a little bit desperate. And it sounds, I'm sure, as I say it, untrue, because it is untrue. I certainly eat things that aren't part of my food plan, but I am intentional about it.
[04:40.7]
I am intentional when I choose to have an absolutely fabulous coffee and pastry when I'm sitting in Italy. I'm intentional about taking extra time with my food when I know that it's going to make a difference.
[05:00.1]
And I'm intentional about grabbing and having quick and easy things around because I know that I'm going to get hungry. And it may not be, a situation where I can cook a meal at home or where I have a lot of time to sit down and eat.
[05:15.5]
That would be ideal. I would like that all of the time. But that's not how it always works. So I am intentional about creating space and creating, habits and creating situations in my life that allow me to be flexible and intentional and not desperate or clinging to rules.
[05:42.7]
Also, think about your self image in terms of your clothing, your wardrobe. Change of season is a great time to do that. Pull stuff out of your closet, see what still works for you. And I'll differentiate between what works for you and what fits.
[05:59.8]
When I'm not feeling good about my body, I'm just happy to have clothes that fit and I wear them. And I try not to think about it too much. When I have clothes that work for me, ironically enough, I feel better about my body.
[06:17.2]
And by working for me, I Mean clothes that actually make outfits, clothes that I feel good wearing, that I feel good in, that I look forward to putting on. And it doesn't take many outfits, one or two outfits that you really like and really feel good on, feel, good in, to let you start to recapture some of that part of your self image.
[06:44.5]
So that you can go into your closet, go into your storage and say, hey, is this truly working for me? If it doesn't fit, then that's not even a question, right? But it fits. But I don't like fits. But I spent a lot of money on it, but I don't actually feel good when I'm wearing it.
[07:06.6]
Think about the statements of self image that you would like to have around your closet and around your clothing. For example, I'm the type of person who enjoys getting dressed every morning. I'm the type of person that has two or three outfits that I know I can always grab look good.
[07:25.8]
I'm the type of person who can pack for a week long vacation in a half an hour or less. Try on statements for yourself. Some of them will feel right, some of them, I mean, you may have no desire to be able to pack, excuse me, in a half an hour to go on vacation.
[07:45.9]
Packing may be something that you like to do over the course of weeks. That's fine, but find some statements about your self image about each of these areas of your life, be it your social life, your work life, your romantic life, your life as a mom.
[08:08.1]
Think about these types of statements. Get out the journal, try them on, write them down, see if they ring true. If not, cross one out. But if you write something and it really starts to feel good, build on that.
[08:24.7]
You know, I'm the type of person who can figure things out. I'm the type of person who can learn what works for me and what makes me strong and what makes me healthy.
[08:41.1]
And having a good self image contributes strongly to our health. It drives how we think about ourselves, it drives how we talk to ourself, which is extremely powerful self talk is.
[08:59.8]
And that in turn drives behaviors that reinforce taking care of ourselves. So I encourage you to play around a little bit identifying what your self image is in different parts of your life.
[09:18.1]
And you don't have to do all of the parts at one, at once. Go ahead, pick one area. Start making some statements around what you like, what you feel. And you pretty quickly sort out what really feels true in your gut and what are maybe some ideas that you've brought forward from older previous self images.
[09:42.5]
So, as always, reach out if you'd like help. And until next week, let's go out and own it.
